Mary Lyon deserves a monument in Washington D.C. because she helped women get a better education. Mary is known as an American education activist who is remembered for her commitment of getting higher and better education for women.Mary opened an all female college 1834. This college allowed women to get an equal education to men's education. The college was called Wheaton Female Seminary, but is now named Wheaton College. She opened it in Norton, Massachusetts and it is still there to this day. Since she was so committed, she impacted sex equality to this day. She made a major advancement in women's rights and education.
